In Gotoh Laboratory, we are studying image processing algorithm and its application, such as 'Medical Image Processing', 'Scene Analysis', and 'Human-machine Interface'.  Image reconstruction is an important process to segment tissues or/and organs from three dimensional medical images which are obtained from CT(Computer Tomography) and/or MRI(Magnetic Resonance Imaging) , shown in Figure. We have been studying an image segmentation algorithm for affected area of interstitial pneumonia, and developing a prototype system. We are also interested in motion analysis of time sequence MR images which enables us to evaluate the motion of the heart muscles.
We have developed a signal processing algorithm for Laser radar to navigate autonomous vehicles which eliminate effects of weather condition in outdoor. In order to trace objects in three dimensional environment, we have developed an adaptive template matching algorithm, and we are now trying to expand its applications. We are also making a study of a computer aided translation system to produce Braille Music Scores. A joint research is proceeding now to develop a vision-based screening system to analyze microscopic images of cells after DNA transfection.
